THE 3DVB STORY... AS TOLD BY BONDI BUDDY
ive been meaning to put up a blog for us for a while, so... thanks for reading, thanks for listening to our music, and this seems like a good time to do it. i haven't posted very much on our social media pages. i guess i communicate better in long-form format. /__\ /''
so much has happened in my personal life since me and super crunch (willow) put out this album- but it also feels like it just happened!
ok, so...as far as how the band started - me and willow were tumblr mutuals back in the day (i'm going to say starting in 2013? 2014?..) i mostly posted furry art and music, which i found cringe for a long time, but want to be kind to myself for, since i was 14 -- and in hindsight being ambitious and brave! but i got bullied for it, and i don't really want to get into that now, haha... most of the songs were written during some pretty rough patches of mental illness and fucked up life experiences. but it was my first time sharing music online.
after that, i got my GED and dropped out of highschool. art school wasn't really an option financially and i wasn't really in a place where i knew how to make that happen anyway. i got a job, hastily and stupidly moved in with my girlfriend at the time because it was the only way i could afford to be independent, and felt pretty unmotivated to make music or art. at 21 years old i pretty much felt like my life was over, at least as an "artist" or "musician".
i reached out to willow in july of 2020, during covid. i was nostalgic for my old tumblr friends- i spent a lot of time on the internet as a kid and those friendships were some of the most meaningful i had during my formative years. i was extremely depressed and isolated. i messaged her over facebook, which i pretty much never use- but was the only mode of contact since nobody used skype anymore. she replied, and soon after this, we realized we had a lot of parallels of fucked-up-ness going on in our lives, along with a shared interest in midi garbage, vaporwave, steely dan, the beach boys and weezer...we both wanted to make music again, so we started making tunes over discord! :D

we've always made music by sending .wav files back and forth and trusting eachother to add something cool. i trust her taste and the feeling is mutual. sometimes we add or remove stuff, but not really that much. we've always made music for fun.
bondi buddys design came from a drawing i made for pocket PC thoughts SoundCloud album art. (this is also an early version of the song!) dream puzzles was originally going to be the song title for Night Sweatz, but we decided pretty quickly it was a cool band name.
super crunch's design came later, with the idea that she was a bubble bobble video game character in the real world, and bondi buddy came by crashing to earth as an alien and they became best friends. we can tell the true story another day...

and of course we had the wine guy saga. but that is definitely a blog post for another time..!
anyway, it took us about a year to make the album. we used FL studio and audacity, my SK-1, an omnichord, shitty lenovo laptop mic, a headset mic, and a lot of sound fonts, drum loops, Krush and SampleReducer.
i didnt expect people to care about it! it's been so heartwarming and amazing to see our music matter to people. thank you. i have met so many wonderful friends because of puzz...and it has been so fun to play shows together and hang with willow irl! music is awesome! anyway, Gobo 3D made the album art. Rusty helped make Puzz 3D's instrumental. and the rest is HERstory.....
